Anup bought a computer with tuition money and is now a successful freelancer and entrepreneur

Anup Kumar Roy, a young man from Shariatpur, who grew up in a family of poverty, dreamed of becoming successful since childhood. And so the urge to stand by the family along with studies made him a hard worker at an early age. Once the one who had to spend every penny, tutoring from afternoon till night and running the family and studies, today he is the 'Top Rated Freelancer' of Upwork, an international freelancing marketplace. So far he has earned more than one lakh US dollars or crores of rupees from freelancing marketplaces. Anup has also started a small office in his district to increase the scope of work, where seven workers are working.

Buy first computer with tuition money and stay up late learning
Establishing himself as a successful freelancer and entrepreneur, Anup Kumar Roy's road to success has never been easy. Anup is the only child of father Asit Baran Roy and mother Padma Rani Roy. A large part of his life was spent in Bandarban district due to his father's job in a private company. After passing SSC from Science Department in 2015, Honors from Jazira University College, Shariatpur and later in Political Science from Narayanganj Govt Tolaram College.

Anup started tutoring from 2016 to cover the cost of education and support his family. Also taught in a coaching center for a long time. Teaching students was not only a source of income for him; It helped him to take responsibility, understand the value of time and develop the habit of hard work.

Although Anup had a dream of buying a computer, he could not fulfill it for a long time. Although he needed a computer to learn digital marketing, it was not possible for him to raise around 70 thousand rupees at once. But he did not give up. After gradually accumulating around 35 thousand taka from the tuition money, after borrowing the remaining 35 thousand taka from his mother and relatives and buying a computer, tears came to Anup's eyes. Because, the computer was not just an electronic device to Anup; That was the only key to changing the course of his life. After buying the computer, Anup gradually paid all the money by giving tuition.

The long struggle to bounce back from failure
Anup Kumar Roy told Prothom Alo, 'The road to success was not so smooth. In the beginning, after taking freelancing training in an educational institution, the desired success was not achieved even after six-seven months passed. But even after wasting time and money, I didn't stop. I realized that it is not just taking courses to become proficient, it is also important to practice regularly and understand problems and find solutions. After that I took training in Digital Marketing from Shamim Hussain's IT Training Institute "SkillUper" and continued learning by myself at night by using Google's various online courses, YouTube and online educational materials.'

The joy of earning the first $20 and the smile on mom's faceAfter almost a year of trying, Anup earned $20 by doing his first paid media job on the international freelancing marketplace FiveR in June 2022. Although the amount may seem small today, it was a huge achievement for him. In addition to continuing to work at Fiver after his first job, Anup developed his professional profile at Upwork and expanded his international network through LinkedIn. After regularly earning 40 to 50 thousand taka per month from freelancing, he used to give most of the income to his mother without buying anything for himself. Currently, Anup is working on digital marketing on both platforms - Fiver and Upwork. He mainly works with various US businesses and digital marketing agencies on paid media, Google ad management and conversion tracking. He is also in charge of marketing and business development of a fashion house in Europe.

After days of working alone, Anup has opened a small office in his own district, Shariatpur. There he is working in paid media management, sales and marketing, client management and project management. Currently, Anup's monthly income is 3 to 5 lakh taka, but he has earned up to 8 lakh taka in a month.

Anup's Message for Newbies
To the newbies, Anup said, freelancing is not a shortcut to get rich overnight; It should be taken as a long-term career. At least one to one and a half years of regular study and preparation is necessary to reach a good position. Emphasis should be placed on learning to use relevant AI tools and platforms along with work in the current artificial intelligence or AI era. With honesty and hard work it is possible to achieve extraordinary success even from an ordinary middle class family.
